Bible Truth & Prophecy | Nimrod and his Kingdom

Nimrod is the founder of Babel aka Babylon (Gen.10:8-10, 11:1-9).

Nimrod is the 13th generation from Adam.

The name “Nimrod”  נמרד  comes from the Hebrew word  מרד  “marad” (H4775) which means “to be rebellious” or “to revolt”.  This word is used many times throughout scripture but here’s a few, Gen.14:4 , Josh.22:29 , Job.24:13 .

The letter  נ (nun) is added to “marad” to makes Nimrod =  “He will rebel”

Once in 1 Chron.1:10  his name is spelled  נמרוד  which may mean “we shall rebel” or “let us rebel”

Nimrod was a “mighty hunter” (Gen.10:9) .   It is said that at this time, there may have only been a few hundred people in the earth but the number of wild animals was growing at a much faster rate.  These wild animals caused much terror in the land because they were outnumbering and killing the people.  But Nimrod, the Mighty Hunter, was the man who was able to subdue them.  So people admired him and looked to him for protection.

Nimrod not only was a hunter of wild animals, but also became a Hunter of Men.  And he was able to take men away from God and unite them unto himself.

And the beginning of his kingdom was BABEL, and Erech (Iraq), and Accad, and Calneh, IN THE LAND OF SHINAR

This is the first “kingdom” mentioned in the bible!  It is a rival system to God’s Kingdom.

Out of that land went forth Asshur (Assyria), and builded Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah, And Resen between Nineveh and Calah: the same is a great city.

…they found a plain in the land of SHINAR; and they dwelt there.

The record says:

” the whole earth was of one language, and of one SPEECH“.  (Gen.11:1)

The word “speech” here is the Hebrew word “dabar” (H1697)

The word “dabar” is a very important word in the bible and this is the first time it is used in the bible. The word “dabar” is not restrained to only mean “word” but also a “thing” or “matter” In essence the “plan or purpose” of something.

In the Septuagint, the Greek word “logos” (G3056) is used for the word ‘dabar’.

Thayers Lexicon expresses it is an “INWARD THOUGHT of an outward action.”  It designates “reason, purpose”. To give “account” in Mt.12:36, Rom.14:12.  It is a “conception, idea, gathered in the Mind, not only expressed in words.

Here, in the days of Nimrod, they INTENDED to make a name for themselves, not YHWH.

And they said, Come, let us build OURSELVES a city and a TOWER, whose top may reach unto heaven; and LET US MAKE US A NAME, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

After the Flood, God had commanded they “be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth”  (Gen.9:1)

But they did not want to do this.

Instead of dwelling in the Tabernacle of the God of Shem (Gen.9:26-27)  they would build their own place of worship, a rival temple and the “Tower whose top would reach to heaven” (Gen.11:4),  not only to protect them from another flood,  but as a REBELLION against God.

God destroyed this temple and scattered the people by confusing their language  (Gen.11:5-9),  but the ideology from Babylon has not changed.

Nimrod’s government, the first “kingdom” recorded in scripture, is the first of the kingdoms of men.  Interestingly,  even the architecture of the European Union Parliament building in Strasbourg, France was modeled after the artist Brueghel’s depiction of the Tower of Babel.

But Nimrod’s kingdom was a Political and Religious system. He was a king priest Imposter.   Nimrod himself claimed to be a god and he made heros/gods of men.

Nimrod was a real man and is recorded throughout ancient Near East literature by name and also by other names throughout Mesopotamia from Sumeria, Babylon, Assyria and Hittites.  Even in Palestine tablets have been found with this man’s name on it.

Archaelogists have found relics providing evidence that the Sumerians (from Sumer see map above) were a “Religio-Politico state”.  The Sumerians are believed to be the oldest civilization on earth.  They were advanced in areas of mathematics and communication.  They built levees and irrigation canals, advanced cultivation and harvesting techniques, skilled craftsmen, carpenters, metalworkers, sculptors, merchants, boatman, military, even doctors and PRIESTS.

The name Sumer actually comes from the name of Nimrod’s wife, Sumeramis or Semeramis.  This system influenced the Ancient Near East for over 3000 years.  Other cultures that followed the Sumerian system were Accad, Babylon, Assyria and Persia which became the basis of the Greek and Roman systems of rule.  The Sumerians were very important historically and biblically.

The Sumerian religion centered around worshipping the forces of nature.  This is where all the  FALSE DOCTRINES of a countless number of gods and goddesses, demons, fallen angels, making heroes of men, trinity, mother worship, going to heaven (Gen.11:4), immortal soul etc. originated.

These false teaching have spread through every generation, culture and religion around the world , CORRUPTING The Truth and making them fables, from very early until this day.

The Great Ziggurats, built in the days of Nimrod , were still in use up to the days of Nebuchadnezzar II and the remnants can still be seen today.

Most recently in March 2015, the terror group ISIS destroyed city of Nimrud.

This angered many people in the world who vow to rebuild and repair the damage.

But they shouldn’t work too hard,  because the prophet Micah says that he “that is to be Ruler in Israel” (Micah 5:2)   and he “shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and THE LAND OF NIMROD in the entrances thereof…” (Micah 5:6).

The record goes on:

10 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith Yahweh, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots:

11 And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds:

12 And I will cut off WITCHCRAFTS out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more SORCERERS:

13 Thy GRAVEN IMAGES also will I cut off, and thy STANDING IMAGES out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt NO MORE worship the work of thine hands.

~Micah 5
